Engineering Professionals Learn Data Analytics While Staying on the Job in Flexible New Online Master's Degree

MADISON - Big data is increasingly important in engineering, and companies benefit from employees who can make sense of it. The Master of Engineering: Engineering Data Analytics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a flexible new online program for those seeking data analytics skills while staying on the job. Students will gain the technical expertise to propose innovative solutions to engineering problems that can save an organization time and money.

Launching in fall 2017, the Master of Engineering: Engineering Data Analytics is designed for professionals seeking to advance their careers in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, materials, and other engineering fields. Students can customize the degree so that it is relevant to their day-to-day jobs, bringing questions and projects from work.

The program is completely online, making it convenient for those who travel or work full-time. Students proceed at their own pace while regularly checking in with peers and faculty to share insights and stay on track. They can complete the degree in as little as two years or fit in courses as their schedules allow.

“The Master of Engineering: Engineering Data Analytics is unique in its focus on data analytics in an engineering context,” says program director Matthew Griswold. “It is also the only such program offered in a flexible online format, allowing students to remain in their current jobs. Graduates will develop the skills to organize and analyze data, and will become linchpins in their organizations’ decision-making process.”

In the Engineering Data Analytics program, students take 15 credits of core courses in data analytics that provide a foundation for analyzing data. They also take 15 credits of domain-specific electives that align with their engineering interests.

UW-Madison’s graduate programs in engineering are consistently rated among the world’s best. Students in the Engineering Data Analytics program will have access to renowned faculty members and join a wide-ranging network of distinguished alumni.
